Paul is a renewable energy engineer with extensive experience in the design and project management of remote area solar photovoltaic projects. Paul has been responsible for project management of over 2MW of PV installations within Australia including a number of 142kW roof mounted system at the University of New South Wales, two 325kW systems at the Alice Springs Airport, the 180kW installation on the Araluen Arts Centre, Alice Springs, and his current role as Project Manager of the Yulara 1MW PV installation.
At CAT Projects, Paul was the Senior Project Engineer for the highly successful Bushlight India Project, for which he designed the off-grid PV-battery mini-grids. This Project was awarded Engineers Australia’s highest accolade in 2011, the Sir. William Hudson Award.
Paul was also the senior system engineer for the Cook Islands Outer Island renewable energy project, leading the design of 95% solar energy supply systems for eight communities across six remote islands in the Northern Group. As a part of this work, Paul completed a number of visits to these remote Islands to understand power usage and demand, assess local capacities, determine appropriate siting and develop a technical design response appropriate to the context.
For the past two years, Paul has managed the Desert Knowledge Australia Solar Centre (DKASC) in Alice Springs a whole of system demonstration facility that is now a well-regarded resource for the international PV industry.
Paul has also applied his extensive experience in PV to a range of consultancy positions including providing technical assistance to the ADB for design of Indonesia Feed in Tariff Policy; and technical due-diligence work for a private equity firm looking to invest in a number of megawatt scale established and planned PV systems.
Before joining CAT Projects as a senior project engineer, Paul worked for five years at Bushlight, as Capital Works Manager undertaking procurement and installation of over 100 off-grid PV-battery and hybrid PV-diesel power stations in remote Australian Indigenous communities.
