The Bushlight India Project

Case Studies

 

One of the main deliverables of the Bushlight India Project was the establishment of a number of demonstration systems in the field. The purpose of doing so was to trial the Bushlight India Model through actual implementation, with lessons from these experiences then feeding back into the development process.

By the close of the project, the Bushlight India Model had been successfully implemented in two remote villages, with Bushlight India Village Solar Energy Systems established and operational in both villages.

 

Village: Maligaon

Location: Thuamul Rampur Block, Kalahandi District, Orissa.

Implementing Agency: Gram Vikas (NGO)

Supply and Installation: Tata BP Solar

Village Selection: March 2009

System commissioning: September 2010

Funding:

  • Capital: Bushlight India Project
  • Community engagement and capacity building: Bushlight India Project & Gram Vikas
  • Powerhouse and system compound: Bushlight India Project & Gram Vikas & local in-kind contribution

Total system cost: ~ Rs 51 lakh, fully supplied and installed; powerhouse and compound ~ Rs 5 lakh.

  • Total designed demand: 22.3kWh/day (including currently unallocated capacity for growth)
  • Total number of houses connected: 47
  • Total number of shops connected: 2
  • Total number of area lights: 15
  • Total number of community buildings connected: 2

 

Village: Rajatjubili-Annpur

Location: Satjelia Island, Sundarbans, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

Implementing Agency: WWF-India (NGO)

Supply and Installation: Tata BP Solar

Village Selection: Dec 2009

System commissioning: Februrary - March  2011
