Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre
The Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre project was a $18.3m redevelopment of the existing facility that extended usability of an important community centre to the entire calendar year improving its capacity and range of services. At the time of completion these works constituted the largest construction contract in Alice Springs to date.
CAT Projects was engaged by the Alice Springs Town Council for Stage 2 of the upgrade in a project management role, to oversee the tender and construction process.
In developing the tender CAT Projects was able to reduce cost without sacrificing usability by engaging local knowledge and innovation and developing materials locally to avoid transport costs.
The construction works include a new indoor swimming centre featuring a FINA standard 25m lap pool, a learn to swim pool, a leisure pool and other aquatic recreational features such as a spa, river section and waterslides.
The facility also includes a 2556 litre Helicol solar hot water heating system for indoor pool heating.
Work on the site was completed in 2011 with an official launch held 17 April.
